Building a successful coaching business is filled with ups and downs. For every step forward, there’s often a challenge to overcome. If you’re in the midst of your coaching journey, you’ve probably felt the weight of uncertainty, the learning curve, and those moments of self-doubt.
But here’s the thing: the struggle IS your growth path. It’s what shapes you as a coach and equips you with the skills that can transform not just your business, but your life.
So, what can you do to move forward and find success? Let’s break it down into some key insights.
1. Embrace the Challenge, It’s Part of Your Growth Process
When you’re building your coaching business, challenges are inevitable. Don’t shy away from them. In fact, the challenge is something you need to embrace—it’s a vital part of your growth process.
Carlos, a Pro Member in CMC learned this first-hand. At the beginning of his coaching journey, he was just trying to help others the way he had been helped. But he quickly realized that he didn’t have a clear direction or a system to follow. “I just knew I wanted to help people,” Carlos said. “But I had no structure, no framework. I needed direction.”
So how can you apply this insight in your own coaching business?
Appication Tip: Start by giving yourself permission to embrace the struggle.Every step you take, every challenge you overcome, will build your confidence and your skill set. Stick with it, and don’t get discouraged by setbacks—they’re part of the process.
2. Track Your Progress with Key Metrics
Tracking key metrics—like outreach, calls, proposals, and client conversions—is crucial for success in the coaching world. Without measuring, it’s easy to feel like you’re spinning your wheels and not making progress.
Carlos started out just reaching out to people without any clear tracking or plan. “I was just shooting at the wind,” Carlos said. “I wish I had started measuring everything earlier.”
Application Tip: Begin by tracking how many people you’re reaching out to each day, how many discovery calls you’re having, and how many of those turn into clients. It may feel tedious at first, but once you have this data, you’ll be able to predict your future success. Write their names down too.
3. Commit to One Topic For Awhile Makes Content Creation Easy
Creating content for your coaching business doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Instead of spreading yourself thin by talking about everything, commit to one topic and stick with it for two weeks.
Carlos did this with great success: “I commit to one topic for two weeks, going deep with it in everything I create. It’s helped me stay focused and create content that actually resonates with my audience.”
This approach not only builds your expertise on a specific topic but also creates content assets you can reuse over time. Focus on quality, not quantity.
Appilcation Tip: Choose a topic that aligns with your coaching niche, and dive deep into it. Write blogs, create videos, or even develop lead magnets. The more focused you are, the more value you’ll deliver. (Plus YOU learn more!)
4. Trust the Systems You’ve Built
When the time comes to go full-time in your coaching business, having a system you trust can make all the difference. Carlos put systems in place—tracking outreach, calls, and proposals. “I knew that if I got 11 proposals, I’d get one high-paying client,” he said. “I built a system around that, and now I know I can scale it.”
Application Tip: Build systems that you trust. Whether it’s for client outreach, content creation, or financial planning, systems help you stay consistent and measure success. Once you have a reliable system, you can tweak and scale it as your business grows.
Conclusion: Take Action and Trust Your Journey
Start by embracing the challenges, tracking your progress, and creating a system you trust. Don’t rush the process—each step you take will get you closer to your goals.
